Proverbs 20:27 (NIV)
27The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on one’s inmost being.
As a sinner, born of flesh and incapable of perfection I often second guess myself. I often write that life happens in each moment where we currently exist, and present actions quickly become past actions which serve as a beacon for future outcomes. Said differently, what we sow in the present will soon become the past and in time; fruit of the future. We are measured by our fruit, something time will always reveal.
James, Jesus’ half-brother spent time talking about faith and works. A little-known fact is that James didn’t believe Jesus was the Messiah until after His resurrection, and he spent the rest of his life in repentance and spreading the Good News. He made a point that faith alone is meaningless, from the beginning of his book, my favorite verse, James 1:22 can be summarized as simply, go and do. Later, in chapter 2 James goes on to say in verse 26, “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
Therefore, the lamp of the Lord shines through our actions and illuminates us from the inside out. Being in action for His glory through Jesus and in service of The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) is our purpose and the driver of our passion in life. Leading with love and making amends when we fall short can only be faked for so long, sooner or later Truth will reveal Himself. The tongue and heart are inextricably tied together (Luke 6:45) and the Lord knows with our thoughts, words and actions are not in alignment. Follow the lamp of the Lord, He will lead you to the narrow path. This world, our culture, and society all pull us off path to what is easy and panders to our desires, don’t fall prey. Be a beacon of Truth, lead others to Life by following and practicing the Way. God Bless.
