Faith Over Fear

Faith

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

How reassuring it is to know that it has been written that we aren’t alone in our fear. I get caught up in my fear all the time, of course I’d never let anyone know about that because as a man we aren’t supposed to be fearful, no, in fact we are supposed to be strong and without weakness. Fear however is sneaky because it is a tool of Satan and as with any tool of Satan it’s often paired with sin. Fears can be large or small and they don’t discriminate. Fears, when small, and are kept inside your mind and body have room to grow and fester. Before long all kinds of things in life start breaking down. I’m not talking about a fear of heights or a fear of spiders. We have no problem talking about our external fears, ones that we can openly share with others, fears society has accepted.

What about the fear of not being good enough or fear of losing control or the most crippling, the fear of being alone? These are not fears that society is okay with us talking about in the open. For me I have a fear of the unknown, which goes back to control of a situation, place or thing. I also struggle with the fear of being judged, something I have been aware of for a while now. How do we combat these fears? How can we get around them with Christ by our side? How can we lay these fears at the foot of the cross to never be picked back up again?

Isaiah 41:10 is clear; God is with us.

There are countless places in the Bible from Isaiah to Matthew to John to Corinthians to Timothy and Romans it is clear, “I am with you” or “I am in you” we already know this. We either aren’t paying attention to His voice in us because life is too busy, or we are not a follower; which means you hear Him but don’t know it is Him. This bit of reassurance helps me find comfort for all my fears in prayer. The verse doesn’t’ mince words here, “So do not fear…” and “Do not be dismayed” bottom line, there is no reason to fear your fear because, “I am with you” and “I am your God”

The next line says, “I will strengthen you and help you”. That sounds nice but how? God is full of action, He is a being of verbs, as was Jesus. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 the word THROUGH is a verb which means to live and love like Jesus did. When we start to reframe and look at Jesus’s life compared to our life’sperspectives start to change, we begin to realize that this world, ruled by sin, is ripe for aloneness. But we aren’t alone, and we don’t have to clutch to our fears anymore. We have Christ who will deliver through the Holy Spirit via prayer and the Living word anything we need to combat our fears. Even a simple prayer like:

Dear Lord,
Please Come Into Me With The Holy Spirit, Fill Me Lord And Remove My Fear Of Judgement So I May Find Peace By Your Side. You Are Glory And Salvation Through You All Things Are Possible. I Hear You Lord And I Love You Lord.
Amen

Fear is just another word for darkness, there are so many words for darkness despair, ignorance, isolation, sorrow, confusion. The list can go on forever. Some of the first words out of John’s mouth were the following, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome” John 1:5. How great is that? So far, we’ve learned that we aren’t alone, that darkness can’t stand in the light and all we must do is surrender to His will, love Him and live our lives like Him. In return, He will hold us up with His righteous right hand. Talk about reassurance.

Sign that points to "courage" and one to "fear".

Being held up in righteousness by the right hand of God is like slipping into a hot bath after a distressing day, “Calvin take me away” now reads, “Jesus take my fears.” The pressure is off, we have Jesus by our sides to take our fears, remove them and replace them with confidence. We aren’t alone anymore, we have a friend, our Creator. He is good and perfect and will never let fear destroy you, whether that is fear of judgement, fear of heights or fear of being alone. Through consistent prayer, being vulnerable with Him and inside His Living Word we find our Salvation from fear. God is good, Jesus dies for us; never forget that he paid the price for us, it’s a non-returnable gift that can only be lost or misplaced. Surrender, obey and renounce.
